Dan Price – Service User Governor, Norfolk

Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, I have used mental health services for 20 years. I have received superb crisis and recovery support from ward and community staff.

But I have also experienced night staff who change daily, so they lack understanding of the people in their care. I have known long, terrifying ambulance journeys to out-of-area hospitals while in psychosis. I have also had to battle to receive support at times of acute crisis.

I have insight into the experience of other service users and mental health conditions. This I gained through my time on the wards and Recovery College courses.

My lived experience suits me for the role of governor. I have experienced the Trust at its best and its worst. I want to use this experience to help make improvements for service users, carers and for staff.  

I trained and worked as a nursery assistant. So, I have experience in working to regulatory guidance and best practice in a care setting.
