NHS Provider Licence

NHS Foundation Trusts (FTs) operate under licence. The licence contains conditions for providers of NHS services and is Monitor’s (now known as NHS Improvement) main tool for regulating NHS Foundation Trusts.  

Each year, FTs are required to self-certify whether or not they comply with the conditions in the NHS Provider Licence.  These conditions include good leadership and governance, operating efficiently and effectively within the Trust’s available resources.
