NSFT Preceptorship Programme awarded ‘gold standard’ mark for quality

Newly-registered mental health nurses are receiving gold standard guidance from Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) as they start their working lives.

The Trust’s Preceptorship Programme, which welcomes and integrates newly-registered healthcare professionals and international nurses, has been awarded the ‘gold standard’ National Preceptorship Quality Mark.

The preceptorship team successfully evidenced how the 12-month rolling programme values and invests in continuous professional development and supports students to develop for their futures. Judging comes under the new National Preceptorship Framework for Nursing which has been adopted by many NHS Trusts.

There was praise for NSFT’s Preceptorship Programme Workbook, which was described as outstanding, and the Multi-Professional Preceptorship Policy, which was described as excellent.

The policy was developed by lead nurse Neil Lad, preceptorship lead Glenda Jele and education lead Caren Maidment with attendees of the 2023 Preceptorship Conference and Preceptorship Steering Group, as well other NSFT and regional colleagues.

Neil said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be awarded the quality mark. It is testament to all the hard work which has been put in since September 2023. My thanks go to everyone involved, but in particular Glenda who continues to be a shining light for NSFT preceptorship.”

Interim chief nursing officer Tumi Banda said: “This is a great recognition of how hard our Preceptorship Programme Team have worked to ensure that newly-registered staff are supported to provide safe and effective patient care.

“It further demonstrates the strength of our learning and development programmes. Last month we also received a ‘gold standard’ quality award for our work experience.”
